General Questions

1. What is the Chicago Role Players’ Guild (ChiRPG)?
   We’re a one of a kind event venue specializing in immersive tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) in Rogers Park, Chicago. NOT your traditional gaming store with a retail space and gaming area. 

2. What inspired the creation of the company?
   A group of life-long friends decided that creating a safe and immersive space to play TTRPG was super appealing and doable. 

3. Who is the target audience?
   ALL Chicago-area TTRPGers who are looking to get out of their homes and connect with other gamers. 

4. Is ChiRPG beginner friendly?
   YES! All of our certified Game Masters can teach any game during sessions. So all sessions are beginner friendly, but we go a step further by periodically offering sessions designed for brand new players.  

5. Is ChiRPG focused only on Dungeons & Dragons?
   Heavens no! While D&D was the primary inspiration for our venue, Game Masters and Adventurers alike have and are continually welcomed to play any game that brings people together.

6. What does the customer experience look like from arrival to gameplay?
   You’ll arrive, check in, take your seat, and enjoy your session. In room snacks & drinks are available, which you’ll settle up for as you check out after the session. Generally, tickets are sold in advance but on occasion you’ll see us beckoning Questers in for immediate play. 

7. What is the mission of the company?
   Our mission is to bring gamers together. We want everyone to feel included and have an opportunity for their stories to be told.

8. What role does community play in the company’s vision?
   Foundational. The games can’t exist without the players, we aim to put community over profit everywhere we can. 

Venue & Experience Questions

9. What features make the venue immersive?
   We have projectors, minis, audio cues, terrain, fully adjustable RGB room lighting, surround sound, and 3D print capabilities.

10. Are themed rooms or custom sets available?
    Currently, we have the 1 game room, but we have the ability with our lighting systems and audio cues to create a feeling that goes beyond the visual.

11. How are audio/visual cues used during gameplay?
    We are able to provide premade cues with the touch of a button, and GMs are able to come in and learn the systems and provide a personal touch to their sessions. 

12. What kinds of miniatures and terrain are available?
    We provide an extensive library of miniatures that range from standard to large, as well terrain that is both top-of-the-line customs as well as terrain purchased from the top manufacturers and creators. 

13. Are players allowed to bring their own materials?
    Of course! Though we provide dice, minis and materials for playing - often the players prefer to use their own! We encourage that.  

14. How large is the game space?
    The space holds 6 players and a GM comfortably. 

15. Can the venue support long-form campaigns?
    Yes! Many of our booked sessions are held by long term campaigns. We offer both short and long form! 

16. How customizable are the experiences?
    Extremely. Depending on what you're looking for, you could book a private session hosted by one of our GMs and we could give you the exact type of game(s) experience you want. Want something classic? Want something wild? Want a session for beginners? We have you covered. 

17. Do Game Masters receive technical support during games?
    Yes. We always have someone on site who can offer tech support, although we ask that all GM’s planning to use involved technical elements familiarize themselves with the system before implementing every aspect. 

18. Is food and drink available on-site?
    Yes, we offer an assortment of snacks and drinks for purchase. 

19. Is the venue private during booked sessions?
    Yes. Totally private. Even staff are instructed to stay out of the sessions unless absolutely necessary. 

20. Is the space ADA accessible?
    Unfortunately, at this time, due to rezoning and building codes - we have not been able to upgrade our space in this way - though it has been something we are adamant about solving. 

Private Session Questions

21. What is included in a private booking?
    Depending on what you are looking for, you could book a GM with all the bells and    whistles of a session. If you have your own GM, you are able to have access to our whole  backline, allowing for maximum use of the space. 

22. How many players can attend a private session?
    6 players comfortably. 

23. Can private events be recurring campaigns?
    Of course! We could either allow you to run your own games using our space, or we can host the games for you. Prices vary, but both are welcome. 

24. How far in advance should private sessions be booked?
    As far ahead as you're able to get on the books, the better. Spaces fill up quickly. 

25. Are decorations or special accommodations available for events?
    Within reason.

26. Can private sessions be streamed or recorded?
    Yes! We are happy to provide this service for an additional fee.

Game Master Rental Questions

27. Can independent Game Masters rent space?
    Yes. GMs can rent the space for a fee, and then charge players whatever they’d like. 

28. Does ChiRPG promote independently hosted games?
    We are happy to share and repost what you send us!

29. Are there requirements to rent space as a GM?
    Being vetted by the team. We ask that all new GMs run a test game for us to ensure that the players are exposed to good gaming experiences in line with our mission. 

30. Can first-time GMs rent rooms?
    Once they are vetted, yes! 

31. Is technical training available for GMs using the equipment?
    Anyone that would like to use the equipment is able to request a work session to demonstrate what we offer. If the GM requires someone to run the cues for them, they will have to pay extra, though our system only requires maybe 30 mins - 1 hour of learning.

Corporate & Team Building Questions

32. How do tabletop games help corporate teams?
    Tabletop roleplaying games are uniquely suited to developing Soft Skills in a way that is far more engaging than traditional methods. Teams can use these sessions to bolster their collaborative problem-solving; leadership under pressure; communication styles; negotiation; role adaptability; creativity; grappling with ambiguity; information filtering; conflict resolution; process management; and the list goes on.

33. Are sessions customized for each company?
    Yes, we make all sessions fit the specific group’s needs, and as many of the group’s wants as we can accommodate.

34. Can sessions be hosted off-site?
    We are able to run sessions at the businesses if needed, but this does limit our tech capabilities somewhat. If you have a large team, we encourage multiple sessions with break out groups to maximize the activities and allow for scheduling to be more flexible. 

35. How many employees can participate?
    On site: 6 at a time. Off-site: depending on the size of the space, up to 16.

36. Do participants need gaming experience?
    Not at all. We keep things as simple and streamlined as possible for these experiences. 

37. How long do corporate sessions last?
    Typically 3-4 hours. 

38. Are sessions competitive or collaborative?
    Collaborative, though at times there may be more competitive elements as well.

39. What industries benefit most from these experiences?
    Any, but especially industries with office workers. Many in that space work in industries that often put them in problem solving roles, but often in solo or in small groups. We aim to use these sessions to help employees get to know their coworkers in a different light, so that the team emerges stronger and better than it was before. 

40. Are leadership exercises built into gameplay?
    The very nature of the games we host brings those exercises into play, though they are flavored in our own way! 

41. Can sessions be themed around workplace challenges?
    Of course! The most effective sessions are those where the team interacts in a way that is similar to how they would in the particular workplace scenario, with our fantastical veneer allowing for a better perspective and more thorough understanding of the underlying concepts.

42. What is included in the corporate booking package?
    We will give you an adventure designed for the level of the players that focuses on team building, problem solving and good times. This comes with a list of learning objectives and a summary of how we are tackling each one.
    On-Site at our space, we can give you a fully theatrical immersive experience you will never forget. 
    Off-Site, same minus the fun lighting! 

Birthday & Event Questions

43. Does ChiRPG host birthday parties?
    We are set up to host small parties similar to private hosted sessions. 

44. What ages are birthday sessions designed for?
    13+

45. Are family-friendly campaigns available?
    Yes! We have run short term campaigns for families. 

46. Can birthday players choose the theme of the adventure?
    Yes!

47. Can parents participate?
    For games with players younger than 18, at least 1 parent is required to play the game or be present in the room during gameplay. 

48. Can ChiRPG host bachelor/bachelorette parties or special celebrations?
    Yes! 

49. Are costume or cosplay events encouraged?
    Absolutely! 

Membership & Community Questions

50. Does ChiRPG offer memberships?
    Not yet. 

51. Are there community events outside of gameplay?
    Yes, check the discord or website calendar for announcements for events, charity drives and other things happening in the community that are hosted by our members. 

52. Does ChiRPG support local creators and artists?
    Absolutely. Let us know how we can help!

53. Is there a Discord or online community?
    Yes, check the website for the link!

54. Are new players introduced into the community intentionally?
    Yes. We are always scanning new groups and online communities to promote the shop. 

55. Does ChiRPG partner with schools, libraries, or local organizations?
    Yes - we have partnered with various organizations for drives, streams and charity events. 

Business & Operational Questions

56. How does ChiRPG generate revenue?
    Through space rental, ticket sales and snack sales. 

57. What are the company’s long-term goals?
    To spread immersive, dedicated TTRPG gaming spaces to as many areas as we can, using ethical non-exploitive tactics to grow both the company and the community. 

58. Is ChiRPG developing original intellectual property?
    All the time. We homebrew quite a bit and use a lot of settings that become familiar the more the players engage in our hosted sessions. 

59. Does the company plan to expand?
    Eventually, we’d love to expand to more rooms. Book your sessions now to help us grow!

60. Will merchandise or original products be sold?
    We currently sell branded t-shirts, but we are currently focused far more on growing the community of gamers than the brand as a whole. 

61. What makes the business financially sustainable?
    The demand for what we offer is huge. The community shows up for us. We often use a sliding scale ticketing system and often adventurers pay the maximum amount to show their support. 

62. How does the company handle customer safety and conduct?
    We constantly check in with adventurers to make sure their needs are met. We are very diligent about making sure everyone from the players to the hosts are keeping our mission alive. 

63. Why will customers continue choosing in-person TTRPG experiences at ChiRPG over digital and other alternatives?
    Easy: The experience we offer is simply unmatched.
